Deck Expectations

Staining or painting your deck

Living in the Northeast our surfaces such as decks, wood-sided homes take a beating.
No matter how much you prep or use the best products you should expect to maintain your coating yearly and sometimes bi-yearly

From snow sitting on the deck to dogs running and scratching the coating with their nails, our decks are heavily used and abused and with that, we should expect to maintain them as typical.

Wood is always contracting and expanding which creates even more pressure on the coating.

Should we use paint or stain?

We prefer to use a solid or semi transparent stain as it can penetrate a bit into the wood helping to facilitate a greater adhesion.

My solid stain is peeling.

Solid stains are meant to peel when their lifespan is due as most semi transparent stains will either peel or fade

My semi-transparent stain is not even

We are at the mercy of the wood and stains can show up in variations

How many coats will you put on?

We will only apply one coat of a semi-transparent stain, more does not equal better with stains, the wood can only accept so much stain and the rest will sit on the top, never dry and fail

How soon can I stain my deck after it is built?

The more the better is our motto here but at least 90 days. The reason is we want it completely dry, wood sits in yards and collects moisture.

Do you spray or brush and roll the deck?

We typically will brush and roll however we do spray occasionally, typically that is a means to get the stain to the deck quicker. It would still be back brushed. We will use the correct application for your project.
